Advice

The Peace Institute provides its most direct service to Flemish Parliament and its political environment in the form of advice. The close connection between the Institute's scientific work and its political role is established in its advisory function. The Peace Institute's recommendations are issued by the Board of Directors and are published in advisory notes.

  • 14/01/2009 Advice on the draft decree of members Roland Van Goethem, Jan Penris, Karim Van Overmeire

    The Flemish Parliament has asked the Peace Institute to proffer its advice on the draft decrees dealing with the control of the arms trade. This advice refers to the draft decree of Mr Roland Van Goethem, Mr Jan Penris and Mr Karim Van Overmeire. Since the European context has recently undergone profound changes, with the approval of a Common Position and with the ongoing decision-making procedure for a directive on this matter, the Peace Institute recommends that this draft decree be revised in the light of the new European juridical framework.

    The Flemish Parliament has asked the Flemish Peace Institute to proffer its advice on the draft decrees dealing with the control of the arms trade. This advice refers to the draft decree of Mr Jan Roegiers and Mr Kurt De Loor, in which the authors wish to further refine the current legislation in the matter of transparency in the control of policy for foreign trade in military materials and dual-use goods. The overall advice of the Flemish Peace Institute with respect to this draft decree is positive.

    The Flemish Parliament has asked the Peace Institute to proffer its advice on the draft decrees dealing with the control of the arms trade. This advice refers to the draft decree of Mr Eloi Glorieux, Mr Jos Stassen and Mr Rudi Daems. Since the European context has recently undergone profound changes, with the approval of a Common Position and with the ongoing decision-making procedure for a directive on this matter, the Peace Institute recommends that this draft decree be revised in the light of the new European juridical framework.

  • 26/11/2008 Advice concerning the policy letter 2008-'09 of the minister competent for foreign arms trade

    The annual policy letter of the minister competent for the licences for import, export and transit of weapons, ammunition and material especially intended for military or order-maintaining purposes and for related technologies includes a list of situations for which the advice of the Peace Institute is requested. Following the advice of the Peace Institute, parliament will debate upon this policy letter resulting in a resolution for the Flemish Government.
