The Peace Institute provides its most direct service to Flemish Parliament and its political environment in the form of advice. The close connection between the Institute's scientific work and its political role is established in its advisory function. The Peace Institute's recommendations are issued by the Board of Directors and are published in advisory notes.

(Advice in Dutch) Het Vredesinstituut heeft advies uitgebracht aan het Vlaams Parlement over het jaarlijks verslag van de Vlaamse Regering over wapenhandel in 2012. Het instituut vraagt meer klaarheid over de toepassing van het Wapenhandeldecreet en meer inspanningen om het werkelijk eindgebruik van militair materieel te achterhalen.
